General Examination Guidelines.
A complete Polygraph examination should last between 1 and 3 hours, and even though this sounds long, the examinee will almost experience no discomfort. No part of the procedure involves electrical shock or pain. All questions to be asked during the in-test phase of the procedure should be discussed with the examinee. All case facts should be taken into consideration.
According the International Polygraph Association and the South African Polygraph Association, no more than 5 tests should be conducted daily by one examiner. Examiners are also human and fatigue can also have an effect on the outcome of an examination.
